DR. LAURA SMITH
Dr. Laura Austgen Smith graduated from
Colorado State University in 2005 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine and a PhD in
veterinary virology. She left her native Colorado for an internship in equine
medicine and surgery at Virginia Tech's prestigious Marion du Pont Scott Equine Medical
Center. Laura remained in the Washington D.C. area, working both as a clinical
veterinarian and on Capitol Hill in international veterinary medicine, until returning to
Colorado in the summer of 2008. "I am delighted to have found Kent Hill Farm.
It was the perfect place for my semi-retired eventer, and with two round pens and
three arenas, has also been great for training my young horse. The footing is good,
the feed is high quality, the water troughs and buckets are kept clean, and there are a
variety of turnout areas to suit different owners and horses. We've implemented a
deworming program based on fecal egg counts that has worked wonderfully, and been
economical. I live only minutes away from Kent Hill, which allows me to peek in on
any patients frequently, and tend to the rare emergencies expediently."
